This guide is for the T700L, M700L and similar Doss IP CCTV test tools
The Doss CCTV testers can show IP cameras that are not from our own Doss range. That includes some Hikvision and Dahua cameras, and potentially any ONVIF-compliant camera.
To get them working you might need to check a few things.
- If the camera is plugged directly into the tester's PoE output port, you'll need to turn on the PoE power.
- Before plugging in the camera, please note that not every IP camera is 802.11af/at compliant, and may use "passive PoE"
- That means they might draw anything from 12V DC to 32V DC
- Our testers cannot supply these voltages via PoE, so these cameras cannot be used directly with this tester
- Go into the "PoE Power" app, and turn it on
- The "48V on" header should now appear at the top of the screen
- Now you can plug the camera directly into the tester's PoE output port.
- Keep in mind that this draws extra power from the tester's battery, so you should turn it off when not actively testing PoE cameras.
- You also don't want to feed PoE power into any network device that doesn't support PoE.
- If your camera is plugged into a PoE supply separately, you will not need to turn on the PoE in the tester too
- Before plugging in the camera, please note that not every IP camera is 802.11af/at compliant, and may use "passive PoE"
- Make sure the tester's IP address is in the same subnet as the default IP address for the camera you wish to test.
- For example, Hikvision cameras generally have the default IP address of 192.0.0.64, so you'd want the CCTV tester to have an IP address of 192.0.0.100 or something similar
- Make sure the CCTV tester has a gateway address of 192.0.0.1 to suit
- You can do this from the "Settings" app, and under the "Network Settings" menu
- Some cameras also need to be activated before they can be viewed.
- If you have a Hikvision camera, go into the "HIK" app on the CCTV tester and you should see the camera in the list, once your network settings are correct.
- Tap on the camera, then put the default username admin and password 12345.
- Then it will ask you for an activation password. This will be the password to log into this camera specifically for any future app, NVR or direct web login.
- Once you've set that password, you should get a pop-up message saying "activation successful".
- Once you've activated your camera, you should be able to use the standard "IPC Test" app on the tester to find, login and view your camera.
- If none of these work, please try to find the camera using the "ONVIF" app, or via the web browser and the direct IP address for your camera.
- You may find that your camera requires a type of initial setup through the web login and our tester doesn't have a specific app to support that.
Beyond those tips, if you still can't find your camera, please check that the camera supports one of the standard video formats for IP, and that the camera is powering up correctly.
All the best with your installation!
